Chelsea Rimington Among USF's Student Government Leaders for 2012-2013

2012 Aug 30

Chelsea Rimington, of Lena, Ill., will serve on the University of St. Francis Student Government Association (SGA) board for the 2012-2013 academic year.

Rimington, a elementary education major, will represent fellow students as the association's senior class senator during the 2012-2013 academic year.

"SGA is a vital part of our governance structure at the university," Dean of Students Damon Sloan said. "These students play a large role in drafting legislation to make suggestions for improvement to university administrators. Being a small institution, the opinion of a few dedicated representatives can truly make a difference."

The association is responsible for the recognition of student organizations, the distribution of the student activity fee and responding to the needs and concerns of the student body.

"Their impact can be seen all around campus in the form of engaging spaces with newer furniture and recreational facilities as well as changes in policy language to make life better for our students," he said.

The University of St. Francis in Joliet serves 3,400 students nationwide, offering 44 undergraduate programs, four degree-completion programs and 15 graduate programs, including two doctoral programs. Programs are offered in arts and science, business, education, nursing and health care and social work. For information, call (800) 735-7500 or visit www.stfrancis.edu.
